The Library maintains an active collection of course materials to support the students at Unity Environmental University. The course reserve collection consists of library-owned materials and instructors’ personal copies. Quimby Library adheres to the Fair Use Guidelines of United States Copyright Law (Title 17, USC, Sect. 101, et seq.)
General Information
To place items on reserve, faculty should fill out the course reserves request form online. Personal materials may be brought to the library after completing either form.
The library reserves the right to limit the number of copies of an item that may be placed on reserve, as well as the amount of a work that may be copied and placed on reserve. In general, a maximum of two copies per thirty students will be permitted.
Student papers and exams must have a student release form from each student.
Course packs, journals, reference books, or materials borrowed from another library, through interlibrary loan, may not be placed on reserve.
Faculty may request that the library order materials needed for reserve by filling out the purchase request form. Please specify that the materials are for course reserve when placing the request.
Processing Time
Materials will be processed in the order received. Please submit reserve requests in advance of assigned readings so that we have adequate time to process materials. Physical reserves are usually available within 48 hours (Monday-Friday).
Removal from Reserve
Unless otherwise requested by the instructor, reserves will be removed from the reserve system at the end of each term. Instructor-owned items removed from course reserve will be held at the library temporarily. If not picked up, they will be sent to the appropriate departmental offices through campus mail.
Materials may be kept on reserve for additional semesters if the instructor provides documentation that permission has been granted from the copyright holder. Faculty may seek copyright permission through the Copyright Clearance Center. Copies of all letters of permission will be kept on file at the library. Physical reserves that do not require release from the copyright holder may remain on reserve for additional semesters if the course will be offered.
In general, course reserves are intended for use in-house for two hours.
Circulating library-owned materials may be borrowed overnight. These items may be taken out 30 minutes before closing and are due back one hour after opening the next day.
Instructor-owned materials are not available for overnight borrowing without the permission of the course instructor.
Up to three course reserve items may be borrowed at one time. Fines for overdue course reserves are $0.25 per hour with a maximum of $6.00 per day.
Course reserve items cannot be booked or reserved by students. They are available on a first come, first serve basis.
