Connecting from off campus using EZproxy

EZproxy provides the Unity Environmental University community with remote access to library resources. Users sign into the SSO using their Unity Environmental University credentials to access the resources.

Benefits

EZproxy ensures that you have access to the library resources that you need, regardless of your location.

What to Expect

  • This service is normally available 24x7.
  • This service is available to all registered Unity Environmental University users.

Getting Started

Select the database you want to use and enter your Unity Environmental University credentials when prompted to sign in. For most databases, the sign in screen should look like this:

Examples of using databases from off campus via EZproxy

Creating EZproxy web links

The EZproxy service may impact information provided within Canvas sites, particularly by faculty who provide those resources for students. If web pages or other documents have links to online journal articles or other resources licensed by the libraries, those links will probably need to be modified in order to work with the EZproxy service. Below are two methods to help faculty, or others, in modifying the links in documents and websites.

Method One

Manually edit the URL to insert https://login.unity.idm.oclc.org/login?url= into the correct location. If you do manually edit, it is very important to test the link to ensure that it works as you intend.

The required characters, shown below in bold, need to be inserted at the start of URL. For example:

EXAMPLE 1

https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?authtype=ip,uid&profile=ehost&defaultdb=a9h
becomes
https://login.unity.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?authtype=ip,uid&profile=ehost&defaultdb=a9h

EXAMPLE 2

https://libraries.maine.edu/mainedatabases/authmaine.asp?db=asf&src=3521039246
becomes
https://login.unity.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://libraries.maine.edu/mainedatabases/authmaine.asp?db=asf&src=3521039246

Method Two

You can modify the URLs on your web pages by re-executing the search beginning at the library web pages. You would then cut and paste the modified URL into your document.

Note: Many vendors provide a durable (stable or permanent) URL that is the preferred URL to use as a link in your documents. While the "https://login.unity.idm.oclc.org/login?url=" information is automatically embedded in the address box at the top of the browser window, it is not always present in the durable URL provided by the vendor. If it is not present, you should add it manually.
